For today’s Flannel Friday I have a really simple flannelboard that I love using with my infant and toddler storytimes, especially when I am doing a “body” theme.
Where is Your Bellybutton?
Pattern and idea from: Flannelboard Stories for Infants and Toddlers by Ann Carlson & Mary Carlson
Begin by saying:
This is baby’s head.
Where is your head?
Have child or parent identify their head.
Continue identifying as many body parts as you wish. Don’t forget to include the bellybutton though — as everyone knows (and is reinforced when I do this activity), bellybuttons are HILARIOUS!
Oh, I am going to have to get this book to make some flannels for my little one!
The patterns in there have a lot of potential, but I’m not sure how to use all the stories they go with!
I LOVE reading belly button books, and I think that this would be very popular too! One of my funniest storytime moments was re-visiting an outreach group of 2 year-olds the week after reading them the book ‘We’ve all got Belly Buttons’, and without bidding, 2 of the kids showed off their’s!
Hahaha! I LOVE “We’ve All Got Bellybuttons” and that was the book that made me want to do a body storytime. I didn’t understand the power of the bellybutton before reading that aloud. 🙂
Great job. My people never turn out looking this good (even with a pattern).
Thanks Lisa! That’s especially nice since when I pulled it out of the envelope to photograph for this post I thought the hair looked rather wonky.
