(to the tune of “Mary Had a Little Lamb”)
Grizzly bears are big and brown,
Big and brown, big and brown.
Grizzly bears are big and brown,
And live in the woods.

Polar bears are soft and white,
Soft and white, soft and white.
Polar bears are soft and white,
And live in the cold.

Teddy bears are just my size,
Just my size, just my size.
Teddy bears are just my size,
To cuddle with at night.

Book: Old Bear by Kevin Henkes
Book: Bears on Chairs by Shirley Parenteau, illustrated by David Walker (or others in this series)
Book: Bear and Hare: Go Fishing by Emily Gravett

THOUGHTS ON THIS STORYTIME:
Bear & Hare: Where’s Bear? was the reason I decided to go with this theme for storytime.  When books in the Bear & Hare series came in, I thought they would be so perfect for Toddler storytime — and it worked really well!  Especially because I had the kids join in for the hide & seek countdown.

ATTENDANCE:  10 am:  44 people      11 am: 30 people

bear-of-my-heart-by-ryder

Book: Bear of My Heart by Joanne Ryder, illustrated by Margie Moore (This one may be a little long, but I think with the sweetness factor it may work well for infants).

HOW IT WENT:
I wasn’t sure if Ben Loves Bear would work well in a storytime setting, since it is a smaller board book. But, the story was so sweet that I couldn’t pass it up.  And I think the illustrations were large enough so that it carried.

ATTENDANCE: 40 people

Pandas – Preschool Storytime

A few weeks ago I did Infant and Toddler storytimes featuring pandas.  While searching for books, I found that a lot of the ones featuring pandas were better suited for preschoolers.  So why not recycle the theme, but with new books?  I presented this storytime on 6/4/16.

THOUGHTS ON THIS STORYTIME:
Pandas turned out to be a better them than I first thought it might.  I think reading both those books might have been too long for the toddler attention spans, though — next time I might pick one and then choose a shorter option from my additional materials list.  The flannelboard worked really well though.

HOW IT WENT:
Pandas was a fun theme for storytime — I’d like to think it’s infant appropriate since it’s the vivid colors of black and white.  Unfortunately, our library didn’t have quite as many books at the ready for infants about pandas, but I’m really glad I found Panda Big and Panda Small – it read well and got a large “aawwww” from the parents at the end.  Most of the books from this DK Toddler Story Book series are pretty good.

It was a small group this week.  I need to add some more people from the wait list.

ATTENDANCE: 29 people (adults and kids)
