HOW IT WENT:
This was a fun storytime, and an especially great theme to use with infants because you can incorporate so many bounces for the parents to do with their babies.  I was worried that Bouncing Time would be too long to use with the infants, but it seemed to work fine.  I think in the future though I might end the story after the family waves bye to the bouncing animals in the zoo.  That would shorten it a little, but still complete the story.  I love doing Jack Be Nimble as a nursery rhyme and then as a bounce, so that worked perfectly in with this storytime.

HOW IT WENT:
I thought this was a fun theme to use.  We made a lot of animal noises with both Hello, Day! and the flannelboard.  I liked Llama Llama, Wakey-Wake, but I think the board book might have been too small to use successfully.  And it was very short, so I added the song “Baby’s Little Self” in there.  I put on the music and then had the parents touch the different parts mentioned in the song.  It worked really well.  It also helped because the children were a little antsy and the song seemed to be soothing to them.  Maybe I will add that in.

Eggs – Infant Storytime

As I was planning for my infant toddler storytime sessions, I was also working on a storybox to send around to the branches.  Since my theme for the storybox was eggs, I thought I would just use all the hard work I did twice and do an egg infant and toddler storytime theme as well.

Horses is an especially fun storytime theme to use with infants, because there are so many bounces you can do with the kids!  I tried using my flannelboard See, See which I think is the weirdest flannelboard I’ve made.  It didn’t go over well, so I didn’t even include it in this line up.

HOW IT WENT:
After a session off, it always takes one to two storytimes to get into the swing of things again, and into the routine.  I think most of this presentation went really, especially the book choices – One Two That’s My Shoe is short enough that it is great for infants who aren’t yet used to coming to storytime.  And the pictures are wonderful.  This was my first time telling “Dog’s Colorful Day” as a flannelboard story, so I think it was the least successful in this group.  I actually used all ten colors on Dog, but I think if I was doing it again, I’d half that.

Flannel Friday Birthday Extravaganza: Five Birthday Candles

This week we’re celebrating Flannel Friday’s 2nd Birthday!!  I think instead of terrible twos we are in for some terrific twos.

To celebrate I’m sharing a flannel inspired by fellow Flannel Friday participant Katie.

Five Birthday Candles
BirthdayCakeFlannelboard2
5 Birthday Candles
wish there were more
Blew out one,
then there were 4.

4 birthday candles,
pretty as can be.
Blow one out,
then there are 3.

3 birthday candles,
Hope my wish comes true.
Blow one out,
then there are 2.

2 birthday candles
Birthday cakes are fun
Blow one out,
Then there is 1.

1 birthday candle,
the party’s almost done.
Blow out one,
Then there are none.

Hide & Seek – Infant Storytime

My coworker lost her voice, so I took on her storytimes for her this week.  Since I didn’t have a lot of time to prep, I thought about what would be a quick storytime I could put together with what I had on hand and came up with this hide & seek theme.  Most of the stories that I used had lift-the-flaps that created that “seeking” element.

This is a fun game to play with storytime.  You start off with different colored houses on the board, the say the following rhyme before uncovering who is under the house.

Little mouse, little mouse
Are you in the (insert color here) house?

When I first started doing this rhyme, I only hid the mouse in one of the houses.  Then I realized it would be a whole lot more fun to uncover other animals.  I just take some friends from my other flannelboard stories to add in there.  The ones picture above are from some of my ArtFelt sets.

HOW IT WENT:
It was nice to just to one storytime without doing the whole series, because it allowed me to try out a couple of new things and not have to worry about changing the storytime routine if it didn’t work well.  For this storytime, I wanted to see if “Babies Little Self” would work as an activity for the parents to do together with their children.  I think it is such a sweet song, and it did seem to work fairly well.  I don’t know if I would use it every time, but it was a nice change of pace. I also chose to use that since we were doing a lot of “peek-a-boo” during the stories themselves, so I didn’t want that as my intro movement as well.
