HOW IT WENT:
Gossie might have been a little long for the infants, but I think the parents enjoyed it. I was happy that I found a slightly larger board book version of this, because it’s hard to read Dunrea’s goose books in storytime since they are all so small. It’s the Padded Board Book size seen here (though I got my copy from my local bookstore), so it’s 8.2 x 1.2 x 6.6 inches instead of the hardback’s 6 x 0.4 x 6 inches size. I don’t know how much of a difference those two inches made, but it made me feel better about sharing it.

HOW IT WENT:

Looking at the photo of my flannelboard, I’m realizing that I really need to outline the black or darker colors in a lighter color puffy paint so they stand out more. This is a useful note, because I used to use a blue backed flannelboard, so the black pieces were fine — on a black background, they blend it. So, puffy paint for maximum useability!

The Going to Bed Book wouldn’t be my first thought when planning a boat storytime, but it worked well with this group, especially because it is a larger lap-sized version.

HOW IT WENT:
There are a lot of nice books for little ones about mothers out there, which makes this a fun storytime to put together. I had never read Mama’s Little Bears before at a storytime, but I really liked it as a choice for this one. It seemed to be a nice blend to have one really sweet book, and then one that was more of a story with a mother.

Pandas was a fun theme for storytime — I’d like to think it’s infant appropriate since it’s the vivid colors of black and white. Unfortunately, our library didn’t have quite as many books at the ready for infants about pandas, but I’m really glad I found Panda Big and Panda Small – it read well and got a large “aawwww” from the parents at the end. Most of the books from this DK Toddler Story Book series are pretty good.

It was a small group this week. I need to add some more people from the wait list.

HOW IT WENT:
So, I went to do a different tickle this week, and…. my brain just stopped. I totally forgot the words. I started the tickle and then nothing. I laughed it off, and we just did the same tickle we’ve been using for the past three weeks, but it was a little embarrassing. However, it can happen, and you’ll be fine! The parents laughed, but with me and not at me. However, it did leave me flustered enough that I forgot to do a Nursery Rhyme Flannelboard! I promised to practice and come back with the new one next week.

All the books worked really well in this storytime. Thank goodness for lap-sized board books – because I can read things like Toes, Ears & Nose with a group and have it be large enough to see.

ADDITIONAL MATERIAL IDEAS:

Flannelboard: Little Mouse, Little Mouse
I thought I could adapt my Little Mouse house flannelboard set and hide a bunny instead of a mouse and say:
“Little Rabbit, Little Rabbit
What color house do you inhabit?
Are you in the ______ house?”

This seemed slightly ridiculous, so I didn’t do it, but maybe it could work?

HOW IT WENT:
In the future, I probably shouldn’t take a vacation right before infant toddler time without a little more prep. It worked out fine, but I think I would have been more together if I had started a little earlier.

We have an AppleTV hookup in our storyroom, so I was playing around with the idea of seeing if I could play my music over my iphone, so that I didn’t have to rush up and down the stairs to turn the cd player on and off. But it doesn’t seem like we can play music with the projector turned off. I’ll have to chat with our tech guys about this and see if they know some way of doing it. Do you?
